Musical Gatherings

Musical Gatherings are  live music performances connecting original artists with people willing to host a concert in the comfort of their home. What could be more natural? You love hearing live music, and Sam makes his living by playing music for various audiences. If you've ever hosted a private party for friends, you have all the skills required!

Most musical gathering hosts are people who enjoy a party and desire to support original music as well as independent artists. Some of our clients host regular, ongoing music series in their homes.

Most musical gatherings are hosted by people who do it for their love of the music. They desire to support the artist and expose their friends to the artist's music. Typically all the money collected from the gathering goes to the performer, however arrangements are always discussed and agreed upon beforehand. Most often, the host normally takes care of the minimal costs, considering it a common expense involved with throwing a party.

A living or family room that holds the number of guests you desire! It doesn't need to be a fancy space. Guests can sit on couches, folding chairs, or even pillows on the floor! Concerts can also be held on decks or lawns for outdoor events. If planning an outdoor performance, the host must have the option available to accommodate their guests indoors in the event of bad weather. In addition, the artist will need a small table set up to sell CDs or other material.

No, Musical Gatherings are not cocktail parties....they are mini concerts! Most often, the artist is playing acoustically and needs the audience's attention to be heard. Normally there is time to socialize before and after the concert.

Typically, the performer will play two sets of music, usually about 35-45 minutes each in length, with a small break in between. Some hosts prefer to have the musician play one longer set, rather than two shorter ones. The guests usually arrive a half hour before the concert. There is time for socializing and sharing food in between sets as well as at the end of the performance. 

The artist will provide you with promotional material, such as pre-printed invitation postcards that can be provided to friends and invited guests. E-mail and word of mouth are also essential. Ask guests to invite a few of their friends. Remember: You should invite at least twice as many people as you expect to show. Publicity and invitations should go out three weeks in advance. Follow-up phone calls are also very helpful.

Typically, the guests are asked to bring a snack, dessert or finger food to share during the break. The host often makes coffee or provides some beverages. Keeping it simple usually works best!

Children are welcome as Musical Gatherings are ideal family events. As in any performance situation however, parents should make sure that small children are not disruptive. If there are several children attending, it is usually wise to designate a room in the house where they can play.

Because each musical gathering is unique with regard to travel, equipment set-up etc... it is best to contact the artist directly to get a more accurate idea of pricing.
